Once upon a time, the term "bootleg" was used to describe smugglers who illegally transported flasks of alcohol in their boots during prohibition. These days bootlegs are commonly known as the poorly-filmed illegal DVD copies of movies that people buy on the street becuase they're too cheap to buy or movie ticket or wait the extra month for it to be released on Blu Ray. Bootlegs supposedly cost the movie industry millions of dollars every year but one could argue that they do much more harm to the soul and the brain of those who buy them.
