Enjoyable list, many great choices. I would include the other Twilight Zone opening, and Outer Limits (do not attempt to adjust your TV...). The Untouchables is memorable, as is The Naked City (there are 8 million stories....)

Get Smart is Top 10. And where the hell is The Dick Van Dyke Show? I think of it everytime I see an ottoman.

Four that were left out: Wild Wild West, Big Valley, Man From Uncle and Gunsmoke. Must have not liked westerns.

Mission Impossible should be top 5.

Dr. Who?
written by Harrison Hunt, August 20, 2009
I think Dr. Who should have made the cut - here are all of the shows intros mashed into one:

Also, Fresh Prince of Bel Air should be higher - I don't know anyone from my generation who doesn't still know every single word to that song over a decade later.

Barney Miller and the Dick Van Dyck Show not only should have made the cut but are Top 20, no question. Dr. Who also has to make the list.

The Munsters!
written by Fred Gwyn, August 20, 2009
What?? The Munsters didnt make the list at all?? Not even for the cool car, the music or the fire breathing dragon under the secret stairs? Waaaay better than Little House On The Prarie.

Fresh Prince!!!
written by matt, August 20, 2009
The Fresh Prince should have been at least in the top 20, not at like number 95. So many people can recite the whole thing while some of the other shows like Nightrider dont even have a catchy beginning. Fresh Prince deserves more respect!!!

Batman should be alot higher up on the list. Everyone knows exactly what show is coming on even if they're not in the room, just from the opening few notes.

Serious flawed list -- too generational
written by emerisle, May 22, 2010
Obviously a personal list not based on the understanding of what is iconic. Just because you have watched it, liked it or others think it is great does not make it iconic-- A show that is recognized and influences television history is the determining factors-- This list suffers from generational bisas-

Key genres are missing. Obviously the variety shows are not represented-- My pick- The Dean Martin Variety Show which ushered in the 60-70's invasion (though Laugh-in or Carol Burnett Show are equally iconic). Also missing the early variety shows that ushered in the 1950's/1960's musical and early comedy-- obviously the Ed Sullivan Show, Lawrence Welk, Abbott and Costello show all are recognizable to even today's generations--In the late 1950's through mid-1960's westerns ruled-- both the drama serial (you have Bonanza though Gunsmoke might have also worked) but also the anthology-style-- Top picks Wagon Train or Rawhide. What about soap operas, game shows, talk shows, and late night television? Old stand-bys such as The Tonight Show, Guiding Light, Oprah Winfrey, Today Show, Saturday Night Live, Price is Right, all have more name recognition (not to mention longevity) than at least 90% of the shows on this list.

FYI- I am a 80's kid so many of these shows were before my time. More importantly most of these shows I listed are not even show I enjoyed but I can recognize their importance to television, their popularity and their continuing cultural recognition.
